McDonough, Ga. — Columbus scored two touchdowns in the final three minutes to rally for a 21-20 victory over Eagle’s Landing.
20-7 late in the fourth quarter, Columbus quarterback Greg Bingham ran in a 3-yard touchdown with 2:18 left in the game and the Be Devils defense recovered a fumble to give Columbus a chance to score again. Bingham then hit Anthony Padron with a 60-yard pass to make it 20-20 and Peter Suddeth made his third point-after kick of the game withj 1:33 remaining to give Columbus the lead.
Columbus opened the scoring in the second quarter with a 2-yard C.J. Jefferson run, but Eagle’s Landing scored twice before the end of the period to lead 13-7 at halftime and added another score late in the third quarter.
Columbus finished the season 2-8 but went out on a high note, first-year coach Phil Marino said.
“This was a great way for us to end the season,” Marino said. “This gave us something to feel good about and to build on next year.”
