Pacelli football: Joseph Reese, Devonte Taylor rush for more than 100 yards each as Vikings beat Central-Talbotton

Pacelli ran right at an out-manned Central-Talbotton squad and claimed their second victory, 28-19, on the last night of the season.

Joseph Reese, who had 15 carries for 124 yards, and Devonte Taylor, who had 13 carries for 109 yards, did most of the damage for the Vikings. Reese and Taylor each had a touchdown.

But the Vikings’ Wayne Johnson provided an early back-breaker for the Hawks. Central had just driven the length of the field for a score to pull them to 7-6. After the ensuing kickoff, Johnson took the ball on the first play and went 66 yards for a touchdown.

The Hawks, fielding just 25 players, couldn’t match Pacelli score for score.

Central coach Rodney Hester has seen this scenario all season.

“We have a lot of guys who have to go both ways,” he said. “We’re tired in the third and fourth quarters. But I’m proud of my kids. They played hard to the end. They haven’t given up all year.”

The Hawks’ Jawan Hall had 25 carries for 117 yards and one touchdown.

But the Vikings’ strategy of running 45 times in 52 offensive snaps took its toll.

“We started out a little sloppy,” Pacelli coach Bryan Eason said. “We ran the ball very well. We wanted to stretch them out and get to the edge of the field. Our offensive line keyed in and made a lot of big plays. The seniors really stepped up.”

Pacelli’s 2-8 mark is the worst record for the school since back-to-back 2-8 seasons in 1998 and 1999.

Central finishes 1-9.
