MACON The Kendrick High girls basketball team will tip off its Class AA state championship game with Wesleyan at 3 p.m. today at the Macon Centreplex.
Led by senior Kahlia Lawrence, the Lady Cherokees (30-0) are unbeaten and one game from their first state title since 2008 and their second in school history. In their way is a juggernaut: Wesleyan, which has won six consecutive state championships.
Lawrence has paced Kendrick all season, averaging 26.2 points per game. This season, she broke her own school record for points in a season, giving her the top three scoring seasons in Kendricks history. She also set the schools all-time record for points, going over 2,000 for her career.

The Lady Blue Devils were within two points when senior leader Jacqueria Gunter went down with a knee injury. Redan took control down the stretch to win the Class AAAA girls state championship.
