Georgia reports more than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases. Here’s a look at the past 24 hours

The Georgia Department of Public Health reported nearly 57,000 cumulative COVID-19 cases in its 3 p.m. update Saturday.

Here are some key takeaways:

  • Cases: 56,801 (+1,018 in 24 hours).
  • Deaths: 2,446 (+28 deaths in 24 hours).
  • Tests: 713,805. This number includes 113,405 antibody tests and 599,689 viral tests (+13,254 viral tests in 24 hours.) However, these totals do not account for tests that are not reported through the state’s electronic lab reporting system.
  • Muscogee County reported 988 cases Saturday (+33 cases in 24 hours). Cases in Muscogee County continue to rise, with 69 cases reported in the past two days.

  • Chattahoochee County reported 251 COVID-19 cases Saturday, an increase of 5 from Friday. Cases continue to rise. There were only 39 confirmed infections May 29, according to data from the Georgia Department of Public Health. Chattahoochee ranks in the top 10 for cases per person in the state.

  • Bibb County reported 533 cases (+3) Saturday.

  • Gwinnett County (5,141) reports the highest number of cases in the state.

  • Cases per person: Echols (3,980), Randolph (2813), Terrell (2,574), Early (2,513) and Hancock (2,453) counties have the highest number of coronavirus cases per person in the state.
  • The health department is not reporting how many Georgians have recovered.
