The average American moves over 11 times in their lifetime, according to data compiled by moveBuddha.

And the most popular time to move is typically in the summer months, between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

But where are people moving to? Well, a new report by U-Haul has that answer:

What places are GA residents moving to the most?

According to a 2025 report by U-Haul, people from Georgia are moving to states like Texas, Florida and Tennessee the most. The most popular cities to move to include metro areas like Miami, FL, Orlando, FL, Nashville, TN and Houston, TX.

So, why are people moving to these places?

“Many of the largest U.S. metros are in growth mode — a change from what was seen following the COVID-19 pandemic when people took advantage of remote work and migrated to less-crowded markets,” said U-Haul experts. “More recently, big cities and their expanding suburbs are back to greeting a robust inflow of U-Haul equipment.”

What places are people moving out of to come to Georgia?

U-Haul customers are mostly moving into Georgia from cities such as Miami, FL, Charlotte, NC and Nashville, TN. The top ten states that people move out of to come to Georgia are:

  • Florida
  • North Carolina
  • Alabama
  • Tennessee
  • South Carolina
  • Texas
  • Virginia
  • Ohio
  • Illinois
  • Mississippi

Which cities are people moving to the most within the state?

Not everyone is moving out of the state, though. The report also showed that people moving within the state of Georgia are going to the cities the most:

  • Athens
  • Savannah
  • Augusta
  • Columbus
  • Macon
