It’s time to check your refrigerator for this type of shredded cheese because it has been recalled in 31 states, including Georgia. Here’s what to know:
What cheese is recalled in GA?
According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), over one million bags of shredded cheese made by Great Lakes Cheese Co. in Ohio are being recalled because of metal fragments, which could cause internal injury if consumed.
The recall is defined as a Class II recall, which is the second-highest level. However, the “probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote,” as stated on the FDA’s website. Here’s which cheese to look for:
Low-Moisture Part-Skim Mozzarella Shredded Cheese with sell-by dates ranging from January to late March 2026 in these brands:

- Brookshire’s
- Cache Valley Creamery
- Chestnut Hill
- Coburn Farms
- Econo
- Food Club
- Food Lion

- Good & Gather
- Great Lakes Cheese
- Great Value
- Happy Farms by Aldi
- H-E-B
- Hill Country Fare
- Know & Love
- Laura Lynn
- Lucerne Dairy Farms
- Nu Farm
- Publix
- Schnuck’s
- Simply Go
- Sprouts Farmers Market
- Stater Bros. Markets
- Sunnyside Farms
The recall also includes these cheeses:
- 15,490 cases of Italian-style shredded cheese blend
- 4,298 cases of pizza-style shredded cheese blend
- 4,131 cases of mozzarella and provolone shredded cheese blend
- 1,900 cases of Happy Farms by Aldi Italian Style shredded cheese blend
- 1,850 cases of Target’s Good & Gather mozzarella & Parmesan shredded cheese blend
- 117 cases of Food Club finely shredded pizza-style four-cheese blend
A complete list of products, package sizes, UPC codes, batch numbers, and sell-by dates can be found on the FDA website. The FDA didn’t include specific instructions with this recall, but tossing the cheese or returning it for a refund are options.
