Venomous rattlesnake removed from playground at a Macon fast food restaurant

A venomous rattlesnake was found and removed from a Burger King playground in west Macon, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday via Facebook.

The Timber rattlesnake was spotted moving across the parking lot of Burger King located on Romeiser Driver before it went into the children’s playground to hide, deputies said Tuesday. The fast food chain’s staff blocked off the playground from customers until animal enforcement officers could remove it.

Once the officers captured the rattlesnake, it was nicknamed “Sir Buzzy Pants,” according to the Facebook post. The venomous snake was then released unharmed and far away from humans.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office didn’t immediately comment on whether rattlesnake discoveries are common in Macon, but the snake is seen often in the Peach State, except for a few locations in the extreme southwestern corner, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. They are often found in old homesites and barns due to the available cover and how the locations are used by their prey.

However, the rattlesnake is typically shy, avoiding interaction as much as possible, according to the Department of Natural Resources.
