Here’s your chance to buy a piece of Springer Opera House history

Springer Opera House in downtown Columbus is hosting a yard sale this weekend with props, costumes, furniture and more from previous shows up for sale.

Eddie LeGallais, general manager of the Springer, gave the Ledger-Enquirer a look at the inventory Thursday afternoon. Some of the more recognizable pieces include the bumper from “Grease,” habits from “Sister Act” and the tea kettle from “Alice in Wonderland.”

An alligator costume from “Peter Pan” is even available.

Racks and racks of other costumes lined the stage with outfits in every color and from nearly every era. Furniture stacked up along the back wall included all kinds of pieces from office chairs to an armoire. Stacks of hats and some various props completed the set-up downstage.

LeGallis said members of the public have visited previous sales, but it’s also a popular event for high school directors looking for pieces for their own shows.

“Buying any of these costumes or props means you are actually purchasing something that was used on stage in a Springer production, so it is a piece of history,” LeGallis said, “but it also gives the public an opportunity to interact with the Springer in a way they may never have.”

Prices range from $3 up to $25 for larger costume pieces. Deals may also be negotiated during the yard sale, LeGallis said.
