Two Chattahoochee Valley singers land a spot on ‘The Voice’ — and on the same team
A Chattahoochee Valley woman has landed herself a spot on “The Voice,” becoming the second person from the area to do so.
Brittney Allen, 28, lives in Phenix City, Alabama, and joined John Legend’s team after the blind auditions round that aired Monday night.
Allen sang “Dancing On My Own” by Robyn for her audition and was able to only turn around Legend, though the other “Voice” judges, Nick Jonas, Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton, had great things to say about her performance as well.
“I love the song you chose and I love the rendition of it,” Legend said. “Almost everybody can come on here and hit the high notes, but when you can do the stuff you did on the lower end, that’s exciting for me.”
Allen was inspired to start taking music lessons after watching her father perform in his own band, according to an NBC spokesperson. She studied vocal performance in college, but was always too shy to perform anywhere outside of school.
After her mother’s passing from pancreatic cancer, Allen decided to start performing music in honor of her mother, according to a press release.
Allen isn’t the only person from the Chattahoochee Valley to make it to “The Voice.” Columbus musician Mike Jerel, 31, also landed a spot on Legend’s team after performing James Brown’s “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World” on March 9.
Allen’s blind audition clip has been viewed over 100,000 times as of Tuesday morning.
