Chris Pratt among Hollywood stars in new movie being filmed in Columbus, report says
Another movie with Hollywood stars is being filmed in Columbus, according to a British tabloid.
Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown were spotted Wednesday in Columbus during filming of the movie titled “The Electric State,” DailyMail.com reported Thursday.
Columbus Film Commission president Peter Bowden told the Ledger-Enquirer in an email Friday, “There is nothing on our radar about this film. No contact through the Film Office, city or Film Fund.”
According to IMDB.com, “The Electric State” is an action-adventure drama about an orphaned teen who “traverses the American West with a sweet but mysterious robot and an eccentric drifter in search of her younger brother.”
Other actors listed in the cast are Stanley Tucci, Billy Bob Thornton, Jason Alexander, Key Huy Quan, Giancarlo Esposito, Jenny Slate, Anthony Mackie, Martin Klebba, Woody Norman, Cuyle Carvin and Art Newkirk.
The directors are Anthony Russo and Joe Russo. Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely wrote the screenplay, based on Simon Stalenhag’s 2018 science fiction novel with the same title. The Russo brothers’ company AGBO is producing the move.
Netflix will be the initial platform for this movie, on track to be released in 2024, according to Variety.
If the movie is being filmed in Columbus, it’s not the only location in Georgia. The website what’s-on-netflix.com posted photos from AGBO showing scenes being filmed Oct. 24 in Acworth. The website atlantafi.com reported the movie also is being filmed in Atlanta.
And if true, this would be further evidence that Columbus continues to be considered a quality area for Hollywood producers to film movies.
John Travolta and Kristin Davis are among the stars in the movie “Cash Out” that was filmed this summer in Columbus. The 2020 movie “Survive the Night,” starring Bruce Willis, was filmed just north of Columbus in Harris County. It originally was titled the “The Long Night” when it was filmed in 2019.
They are among more than 30 movies filmed in the Columbus area since 2010.
And, as the L-E reported last month, targeted to be filmed in Columbus early next year is a modern-day Romeo and Juliet tale titled “Caketown,” starring Eric Roberts, French Stewart and Quinton Aaron. The cast also includes Elizabeth Posey, Eva Hamilton, Andrew Kai, Paige Searcy and Eric Martinez.
Along with the good weather, scenery and facilities, attracting producers to the Chattahoochee Valley are the Georgia Film Academy program at Columbus State University, where students learn how to work on production crews, and the financial incentives offered by the Columbus Film Fund and the state tax credits in Georgia.
Officials announced in August the film and television industry spent a state record $4.4 billion in Georgia during fiscal year 2022. The Georgia Film Office reported 412 productions, represented by 32 feature films, 36 independent films, 269 television and episodic productions, 42 commercials and 33 music videos were produced in the state between July 1, 2021 and June 30, 2022.
