This set of nightlife highlights includes bell bottoms, bikinis and astrology. But no cigarettes.
Confused? Let's get to the good stuff.
Say goodbye to the overpowering aroma of cigarette smoke that used to characterize a night at the Shanty Shack.
The Columbus hot spot, located at 4475 Warm Springs Road, is now smoke-free. Go ahead, breathe a sigh of relief. Doesn't clean air smell good?
The venue made the announcement earlier this week on its official Facebook page, adding that smoking is allowed outside in the patio area.
The Shanty Shack joins a handful of other non-smoking nightlife venues in Columbus. Note to other bars: Feel free to jump on the non-smoking bandwagon. It rocks.
Groovy Friday night
Do you know where your leisure suit is?
That question dominates the website for LavaLamp, the act that will perform at Friday's free outdoor concert in downtown Columbus. The all-ages show is 7-10 p.m. on Broadway.
Billed as "the preeminent '70s band in the Southeast," LavaLamp hails from Birmingham/Tuscaloosa and boasts a song list that includes hits like "Sweet Caroline," "Brick House" and "Disco Inferno."
While you're downtown, remember there's a bar crawl on Friday night. One $10 cover gets you inside many Broadway bars.
Specials at Illusions
What's your sign? Don't worry, I'm not hitting on you. That was simply a clever way to introduce you to some of the specials happening at Columbus nightclub Illusions this weekend.
Saturday, the hot spot at 6499 Veterans Parkway hosts Aries/Taurus night. You'll get in free until 11:30 p.m. if it's your birthday month. Expect drink specials, too.
Illusions on Friday hosts Ciroc/Remy night, which includes drink specials and free admission for women until 11:30 p.m.
Dare to bare at Mix
I can't end this column without reminding you that the Bikini Calendar Search is under way at Mix Ultra Lounge, 1107 Broadway in downtown Columbus.
The bikini contests happen on Wednesdays, with cash and prizes for the winners. Doors open at 9 p.m. and there's no cover for women or service industry professionals.
Thinking about entering? Good luck. I fully support your decision. Let me know how you fare in the competition -- I'll be flaunting my one-piece and eating ice cream.
