Kermit the Frog says it's not easy being green, but it can be fun for a day, especially when you are also a little pink, purple, blue and yellow.
Saturday morning, the most colorful event held in Columbus, the Color Me Rad 5K, will be held for the third time.
As participants run or walk the course that begins and ends at Woodruff Park, the corner of 10th Street and Bay Avenue downtown, they are sprayed with non-toxic liquids, powders and gels until their body looks tie-dyed.
The event begins at 9 a.m.
The Color Me Rad runs, based on the Holi festival of India, are held across the nation.
Last year, more than 5,000 people in Columbus participated in the event promoting fitness and fun.
This year's event is part of the "Bigger, Badder, Radder Tour."
Though Color Me Rad is an event for profit, a non-profit organization receives a portion of the proceeds. Uptown Columbus Inc. will be the recipient in 2015.
Music for dancing is a big part of the event.
There will be no food vendors, but Uptown Columbus encourages people to dine at one of the many restaurants downtown.
Participants receive a packet that includes a white T-shirt, a color pack and knee high socks. Participants get photos taken by professional sports action photographers. The traditional sunglasses are not being offered.
Registered participants will be able to pick up packets 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday at the Rivercenter for the Performing Arts on Broadway.
How much is it to participate?
Registration online is $45 plus a $5.81 service fee. Registration for children is $15 plus a $4.19 service fee. Registration the day of the event is $55 and a $6.35 service fee. Children 7 and under can participate free but won't receive a packet. Go to uptowncolumbusga.com.
What if there is bad weather?
The event goes on rain or shine.
What is the coloring material?
It is a non-toxic, non-rash-inducing colored corn-starch. It is safe to breath in but if you suffer from asthma or have any other lung-related restrictions, take the necessary precaution as the corn starch may cause discomfort.
Should I bring a cell phone?
It could get dirty. Many racers put them in plastic baggies. Protective cases will be for sale.
Do runners get a medal?
It is just a fun run. There are no times kept.
Will there be showers?
No. Most of the color will just brush off.
Can pets participate?
