The Beatles' Ringo Starr Gearing Up for Birthday Celebration

Ringo Starr doesn’t seem interested in proving anything anymore, and that’s part of what makes him such a treasure. He keeps making music because he still loves it, not because he has to.

There’s something comforting about that. In an industry obsessed with the next big thing, Ringo remains a steady presence, showing up with the same warmth, humor and unmistakable groove that helped change rock music forever. Every new song feels like a reminder that joy can outlast trends. As long as Starr is still recording, there’s another chance to hear one of music's true originals doing what he does best.

Now, Starr is celebrating his birthday, and he wants you to get involved. He’s shared a video reminding people that he’ll be hosting his annual Peace & Love birthday celebration on July 7 in honor of his 86th birthday.

“Every July the 7th, on my birthday since 2008, I invite anyone who wants to join me in spreading Peace and Love,” Ringo says in the video. “By posting, saying, or even just thinking: ‘Peace and Love’ at noon… wherever you are. Peace and Love at noon.”‘

Also, he wants listeners to send in their messages of “Peace and Love” on social media using the hashtag #PeaceandLove and by also tagging his social media accounts. Starr’s Facebook page will also be sharing video clips of local Peace & Love events around the world.

Starr often celebrates his birthday in style, meaning with a long list of celebrities in Los Angeles. Last year’s celebration brought out plenty of familiar faces, including Ringo’s brother-in-law and Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh, members of his All-Starr Band, Jackson Browne, T Bone Burnett, Linda Perry, former Guns N’ Roses drummer Matt Sorum, Diane Warren and Richard Marx.
