Watch an elderly Chihuahua revel in her luxurious, cozy, $380 nook

Talk about living like a queen.

Bibi, an 11-year-old Chihuahua in Tennessee, was treated to the room of her furry dreams after her owner, Honour Hernandez, transformed a small nook under the stairs into a luxury bedroom for her, complete with a raised bed, a portrait of her and a lamp, which the family switches on during the day and off at bedtime.

Hernandez, 29, a contractor based in Franklin, about 20 miles south of Nashville, undertook the $380 project with furniture from HomeGoods after seeing his pet spend most of her life tucked away in a little corner.

The father of two said the idea of making Bibi's room came to him as he was caring for his sons alone for several days while his wife was away.

"I was looking for my next project and thought it would be hilarious to make Bibi her own room," Hernandez, who has been renovating his home, said. "It ended up becoming the coziest spot in the house. It sounds crazy, but I wanted it to be the nicest part of the home."

Bibi loves her room

Needless to say, Bibi loves her room and doesn't leave it much.

"It's funny because I'm trying to renovate it and make it even nicer, but when I try to move her, she bites me because she doesn't know what I'm doing," Hernandez said. "I practically have to drag her out to go to the bathroom or eat."

It's not just Bibi who loves the bedroom. Guests visiting Hernandez's house are also thrilled to see the miniature bedroom.

"Anyone who comes in throws their head back and thinks it's hilarious," Hernandez said.

Bibi keeps an eye on the whole house from her bedroom

Lucky for Bibi, her luxury room is located right between the kitchen and living room, giving her a perfect vantage point over the house.

"She can see the kitchen, the living room, the front door and even catch a glimpse outside through the window," Hernandez said. "She gets sunlight, she can see everyone coming and going and she feels safe because she's elevated and doesn't have to worry about being stepped on."

Hernandez got Bibi as a Christmas gift when he was 17, and she has been with him through many ups and downs.

"At the time I didn't realize how much I needed a dog in my life, but she's been there through everything – break-ups, dating, meeting my wife and starting a family," Hernandez said.

Future plans for Bibi's bedroom

Hernandez says he's not yet done with Bibi's bedroom. The business owner said people have often joked his pet needs a TV next, so he looked it up and found that "for about $50 I can get a real television to mount on the wall so she can watch birds."

"That will be the next upgrade," he said.
