Car show Saturday to benefit Special Olympics
Raising money for Georgia Special Olympics is the goal of the Cops, Cars, & Cruisin car show, which will be held Saturday at the Columbus Civic Center.
Anyone who wants to show off their car, truck or motorcycle may do so for a $20 donation.
Trophies will be given in different categories at the event sponsored by the Columbus Police Department.
The show, which begins at 8 a.m, is free to the public.
At 1 p.m., the vehicles entered will receive a police escort to the Red Robin restaurant at Columbus Park Crossing. Red Robin is a sponsor of Special Olympics.
Special Olympics, which got its start in 1968, provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
