Knowing the 20th anniversary of the Phenix City Amphitheater was coming up, Rebecca Harris did a poll asking people which acts they would like to see return to entertain at the venue.

“A majority said Zapp,” said the special events coordinator with the Phenix City Parks and Recreation Department.

The musical group will be making its third amphitheater appearance Friday at 8 p.m.

“Zapp is very exciting,” Harris said. “It is just a funky, fun group that will entertain the entire family.”

And the show will go on rain or shine, as long as the weather is not dangerous.

“Bring a folding chair, bring a blanket, bring an umbrella,” Harris said.

The amphitheater is located on the banks of the Chattahoochee River, adjacent to the Dillingham Street Bridge.

Country artist Travis Tritt recently appeared at the venue.

Zapp, also known as The Zapp Band, originated in the 1970s in Ohio.

Top 10 R&B hits such as “Heartbreaker,” “It Doesn’t Really Matter” and “I Can Make You Dance” made the band a popular act.

At one point in the 1990s, the group broke up but has been performing regularly since 2003.

“It is a wild show with a lot of costume changes,” Harris said.

She added the band does a great job of getting the audience involved.

The Chemistry Project Band will also perform Friday at the amphitheater.
