Feds: Phenix City woman indicted in scam prisoner helped run
A federal grand jury has indicted a Phenix City woman in an ID theft and credit card scam a man help run from a Georgia prison.
Patience Denise Minor, 51, of Phenix City, was indicted along with Shameka Lashey Thomas, 27, of Sylvester, Ga., and Patrick Rashaud Thomas, 24, who helped run the scheme while in a Georgia Department of Corrections prison. serving time on unrelated charges.
The indictment alleges they stole personal information used to open Capitol One credit card accounts, having the cards sent to their fellow conspirators.
“Thomas would sometimes have proceeds from the credit cards placed on his prison commissary account,” says a news release from George L. Beck Jr., U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Alabama.
If convicted, each suspect faces up to 30 years in prison, plus fines and restitution, Beck said.
