A Georgia state legislator who’s pushing a bill to ban assault rifles, extended magazines and armor-piercing and incendiary bullets has a public hearing set for Tuesday at the state capitol in Atlanta.

The hearing will be 1 p.m. in Room 341 of the capitol building, 206 Washington St.

State Rep. Mary Margaret Oliver, a Democrat from Decatur, is sponsoring the legislation.

“I am pre-filing legislation to ban the sale of assault-type weapons, large-capacity magazines and armor-piercing and incendiary bullets and invite a discussion – a rational, open and fact-based policy analysis,” Oliver said in a news release. “It is time to talk. Please join me.”

Oliver introduced similar legislation designated House Bill 731 in the 2016 General Assembly.
