Columbus State cross country releases fall schedules

Columbus State University head cross country coach J.D. Evilsizer has announced the schedule for the men and women for the fall.

The two teams will run in four regular season meets before hosting the annual Peach Belt Conference championship.

“We are very excited for the start of another season,” Evilsizer said. “We are looking forward to a great year and glad to be hosting the Peach Belt Conference championship.”

The season begins Sept. 1 with the Strut’s Season Opener hosted by Jacksonville State in Oxford, Ala. The men took fifth in the meet last season, while the women finished sixth.

CSU then heads to Greenville, S.C., and the Furman Invitational the following weekend.

The lone home meet of the regular season happens Sept. 23 as CSU hosts the annual Cougar Classic at Fort Benning.

The regular season wraps up Oct. 6 at the Florida State Invitational for the second straight year.

Columbus State will serve as the host of the PBC Championship on Oct. 21 at Fort Benning. CSU is hosting the conference championship for the third time and first time since 2006. The Cougars own seven PBC titles, with the last coming in 2014, while the Lady Cougars won six straight from 2005-10.

Wingate will host the NCAA Southeast Regional on Nov. 4, where CSU will look to qualify for the national championship meet two weeks later in Evansville, Ind.
