Atlanta Hawks player DeAndre’ Bembry was arrested shortly after midnight Friday for allegedly driving 128 mph on I-85, reported WXIA. The speed limit for that stretch of road is 55 mph.
Atlanta police officer Donald Hannah told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution a purple Dodge Charger and another car were seen speeding down the road south of Buford Highway.
"Both vehicles were changing lanes and appeared to be racing each other as they traveled on I-85 approaching the Buford Highway exit at speeds visually estimated to be close to 150 mph in a 55-mph speed limit zone,” he told the AJC.
He told the paper the first car's speed could not be determined but that the purple Dodge was clocked at 128 mph.
The Atlanta Hawks released a statement Friday morning saying they were "aware of an incident involving DeAndre’ Bembry earlier this morning" but were "still gathering information as it pertains to the situation, and out of respect for the legal process ... will have no further comment at this time."
Bembry was a first-round pick in 2016 and hasn't played for more than a month while recovering from an injury, ESPN reported.
