After two years away, Joe Kegler will once again be coaching in his hometown.
Kegler was officially hired as the new Jordan head football coach Tuesday. Kegler, who was previously Carver’s head coach from 2013 to 2015, replaces Justin Newman, who was fired after two seasons with the Red Jackets.
Kegler takes over at Jordan after spending the past two seasons as an assistant at Stewart County. Prior to his time with the Royal Knights, Kegler posted a 28-7 record in three seasons as the head coach of Carver, his alma mater.
Carver made the Class 3A quarterfinals in Kegler’s first year but failed to make it past the Class 5A first round in his final two seasons.

Kegler was elevated to Carver head coach after spending six years as an assistant with the team. Kegler served as the Tigers’ offensive coordinator in Dell McGee’s final three seasons as head coach.
Kegler takes over a Jordan program that has struggled with consistency. The Red Jackets went 2-8 in 2017 and are in search of their first winning season since 1993.
