Seems a shame to stay inside through a three-day weekend, but it's supposed to rain all weekend.
So if I'm gonna be stuck inside, I'll need something to help occupy my time. And that makes a stop at the Altrusa Book Sale in the old Daniel Middle School on Manchester Expressway a natch. The used books are a bargain, and I've found everything from art books to 1960s-editions of Arthur Conan Doyle's Tarzan paperbacks. It's 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday, 1-6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday.
Of course, I could dart into a club for live music. The next live show I'm really excited about is The National, but that's in A-town on Sept. 8. I'll probably get tickets now and ferret out the best show in town to hold me over. For me, that might be Gainesville alt-rock act Colourslide at The Loft on Saturday (10 p.m., $5 cover). Those who lean more to Southern metal might want to check out Dakota Fate on Friday at the SoHo Bar & Grill.
And yea, I'll probably spend a chunk of hours this three-day weekend playing some "Madden" on the old PS2. But you certainly don't need some putz to suggest spending your weekend playing video games, do you?
