Army releases name of soldier killed in wreck with stolen vehicle

The Army has released the name of the Fort Benning soldier who died Thursday from injuries sustained in a three-vehicle accident on Victory Drive.

Sgt. Joanna Joy Ringer, 21, was killed when the car she was driving was struck by a pickup truck reported stolen earlier in Columbus.

Ringer, a native of Loris, S.C., was assigned to the CONUS Replacement Center at Fort Benning where she worked in the personnel department.

The CRC is a unit of the 199th Infantry Regiment.

Ringer had been at Fort Benning since October 2005. She enlisted in the Army in June 2004.

Columbus police arrested the 17-year-old driver of the stolen pickup truck that ran into Ringer's vehicle.

Stayce Devon Walker of 1430 24th St., Columbus, is charged with homicide by vehicle, theft by receiving a stolen vehicle, selling cocaine, fleeing and attempting to elude police, two counts of reckless driving, two counts of having no state license, obstruction of justice, leaving the scene of an accident and crossing the center line.

He was scheduled to appear in Muscogee County Recorder's Court at 9 a.m.
