Well, there's just no denying I'm a sucker for a summer blockbuster, so at some point during this Memorial Day weekend I'll walk the plank into Carmike 15 to see the third "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie — you know, in honor of all the pirates who died in wars. Show times: 706-571-3456.
But first things first: One of the most promising acts of the ongoing Uptown Concert Series is tonight's installment — a band called Honeytribe, which features a man with the mythical name Allman. (Devon Allman is Gregg's song, if'n you're curious.) The local-based Neal Lucas Trio opens the show. That's 7-11 p.m. on the 1100 block of Broadway, and it's free. Details: 706-596-0111.
Baseball is probably the world's second most lulling sport (behind only golf), which makes it a perfect pastime for a long, spring weekend. There are four home games with the Catfish hosting the Savannah Sand Gnats this weekend: 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday and Monday. Tickets can be had for as little as $5 for adults.
