Columbus woman named Navy Spouse of the Year

Christy Kuriatnyk, environmental health program manager for the Columbus Health Department, has been named the Military Spouse of the Year for the Navy branch by Military Spouse Magazine and the United Services Automobile Association.

She is the wife of Lt. Commander Alex Kuriatnyk, assigned to the Navy’s Civil Engineering Corps.

The daughter of a Korean War veteran, Kuriatnyk has always has been proud of her country and patriotic, said Pamela Fair, public relations information coordinator for the West Central Health District.

“It started with my father; he was in the Army,” Kuriatnyk said. “He always supported the military in any way he could. Growing up, supporting the military became very important to me.”

Though she is a Navy wife, Kuriatnyk supports all military branches. The Army community at Fort Benning is especially dear to her as she resides in Columbus.

An overall winner from the five branches will be announced at a Washington ceremony in May.
