Save money, save the world

Believe it or not, tax-free weekend is more than just a massive retail therapy session.

Nightlife's local hot spots should be busy this weekend. And while partying isn't exempt from taxes, nightlife fans can take advantage of some special promotions.

In Friday's downtown bar crawl, one $8 cover will get you into eight participating bars. In addition to all-night drink specials, I'm looking forward to checking out the newly reopened Knockin' Boots (1047 Broadway), which has combined its history as a country club with some new rock elements.

Saturday, head over to Belloo's (900 Front Ave.). Sure, the cigar and martini bar is a little pricey, but if you're going to splurge, this is the night to do it.

Belloo's hosts Little Black Dress Night every Saturday, which means ladies wearing an LBD get in free and receive a $10 gift certificate.

Sunday, if all-hours partying and tax-free gluttony leave you feeling a little selfish, stop by Cooper's At Uptown (15 10th St.).

Visiting the downtown Columbus salon will give you more than a new look to reinforce your hotness. They're hosting a cut-a-thon from 1-4 p.m. in conjunction with a hairstylist's future work at Vietnamese orphanages.

You can drop off donations, as well as supplies like lice shampoo, infant sunscreen, multi-vitamins, insect repellent and teaching supplies.

Looking cute while saving the world — life doesn't get much better.
