Former Troup County teacher Elizabeth Gaddy pleaded guilty Monday to molesting a 13-year-old seventh-grade student.

Gaddy was arrested in November 2008 and charged with child molestation, enticing a child for indecent purposes and aggravated child molestation.

The 46-year-old Hogansville woman was indicted in May 2009 but had resigned from her teaching job at Callaway Middle School in December 2008. She had been on administrative leave since her arrest.

Chief Assistant District Attorney Monique Kirby said Gaddy received a 20-year sentence and will serve five years in jail. Gaddy pleaded guilty to child molestation, and the other two charges were dropped as a result of the plea deal, Kirby said. Gaddy also will have to register as a sex offender.

She later moved to Callaway Middle School in August 1994 and remained at the school until her resignation.
