A growing number of military installations are contracting with national test centers to provide CLEP eCBT (College Level Examination Program) testing and iBT DSST (DANTES Subject Standardized Test) testing through their post education centers. Fort Benning is no exception.
The National Testing Center here on post, run by Troy University, expanded its services in 2008 and became a National Test Center site. Since the beginning, this site has seen a 50 percent increase in traffic. Testing is provided to eligible service members and civilians.
At the National Testing Center, Soldiers can take advantage of online testing to earn college credit. CLEP and DSST are types of exams Soldiers are able to test in specific subject areas and have the opportunity to earn college credit. After taking the exam, results are immediate and scores are reported more rapidly to colleges and universities. DANTES (Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support) has authorized up-front funding for both of these exam fees for eligible military members. However, it does not cover the registration fees, if any. In the coming months, the National Test Center site at Troy will be expanding its selection of exams to include GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test), Excelsior, NREMT (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians), and CompTIA (Computing Technology Industry Association) exams.
The Troy University National Testing Center is located upstairs in Building 2612 in Soldiers’ Plaza. Leon Johnson is the testing site administrator.
