Prepare to put your orienteering, biking and trekking skills to the test. The Directorate of Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation Sports and Outdoor Recreation will host an adventure race beginning at 10 a.m. March 13 at Kings Pond on post.

While an adventure race expedition event can last more than 10 days, the Fort Benning race will be three hours. Adventure races can have individual to four-person teams, but the Fort Benning race will only have two- and three-person teams.

The course, will be revealed on the day of the event, and will be about 65 percent trekking and about 35 percent biking.

“Adventure races are challenging, but they are a blast,” said Pulliam, who has participated in two adventure races within the past year. “It’s a mental game. You have to work your way through plots and pace yourself.”

Each checkpoint will count for points and the first two- and three-person team to get the most points wins. If there are any ties, the team with the best time will win. Teams who take longer than three hours will be penalized. The top three teams in each category will receive medals and prizes.

Pulliam said that the adventure race will be a yearly event and hopes it will be as big as the Fort Benning Reverse Sprint Triathlon.

The event is open to the public. Preregistration for a two-person team is $60 and $70 for a three-person team. Preregistration deadline is March 11. Registration the day of the event is $70 for a two-person team and $80 for a three-person team. Late registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. The cost includes lunch.

To register, go to Smith Fitness Center, or visit www.benningmwr.com to download a form. For more information, call Pulliam at 706-905-8268 or e-mail her at kelly.pulliam@us.army.mil
