Soldiers tested their hand-to-hand fighting skills Friday during the 2010 Maneuver Center of Excellence Modern Army Combatives Tournament at Fort Benning, with champions being crowned in eight different weight classifications.
The daylong event at the Smith Fitness Center began Friday morning with preliminary bouts and concluded with matches to determine the top four places.
Two competitors from each weight division will represent the Maneuver Center of Excellence in the U.S. Army Championship Combatives Tournament later this year.
Basic combatives has been integrated into basic training and is one of 40 core warrior tasks soldiers learn.
