The 9- to 12-year-old Fort Benning Black Knights remain undefeated after defeating the Blast 12-0 in a Columbus Youth Soccer Club game Saturday at Woodruff Farm Soccer Complex.
The Black Knights controlled the ball the majority of the first half, and scored goals from Clayton Donahue, Sam Ostlund and Nicholas O’Donnell, to lead 6-0 at the half.
O’Donnell continued the Black Knights scoring streak with a goal, while the defense shut out the Blast in the second half to secure the win.
“That was a fun game,” O’Donnell said. “We could have been better at passing, but we did a good job spreading out and kicking the ball to the outside. We are looking forward to harder games and we want to go undefeated this season.”
Callie Donahue, 11, of the Black Knights said both teams played well and the Blast were a lot more aggressive than the last team they played.
The Black Knights defeated the Rockets 14-0 Sept. 18.
Coach Jeff Morataya said he couldn’t be happier with the players’ progress.
“We have been practicing for about two months and the team has been wanting to play and represent Fort Benning,” he said.
“They are doing a good job. They play with all they have. The defense played really solid and the offense was hot.”
Morataya said teamwork, controlling the ball and consistency helped the team win against the Blast.Up next for the Black Knights are the Strikers at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, while the Blast take on the Side Kicks at 4:30 p.m.
Both games are at Woodruff Farm Soccer Complex at Field 2B.
