Boots on Broadway returns to Columbus Saturday with a musical lineup that includes Fort Benning’s own rock band, Iron Mics.
The military heritage celebration, organized by UPtown Columbus Inc., will be held 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. along Broadway.
The day will include food, a children’s family fun zone, corvette car show and the 15th annual Arts on the River, an arts festival held near Broadway’s 1100 block. The fine art show and sale is from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will showcase paintings, photography, hand-thrown pottery and sculptures, with some artists performing live demonstrations.
Alternative rock band The World is Quiet Here will kick off the first hour of Boots on Broadway, followed by Boneheadz, a classic rock band covering tunes from Led Zeppelin, Foghat and ZZ Top among others. The Maneuver Center of Excellence’s show band, Iron Mics, will perform from noon to 2 p.m. from a repertoire that covers 50s tunes all the way to today’s hits.
Along the 1000 block of Broadway, visitors can shop for locally grown produce, baked goods, fresh flowers, art and handcrafted items at Market Days on Broadway, which is open from 9 a.m. to noon every Saturday through Dec. 18.
UPtown Columbus Inc. will provide 300 free barbecue lunches to Soldiers in uniform and their families. Soldiers not in uniform will be asked to show military ID. Drawings will be held throughout the day for military personnel for gift certificates from local merchants, vacation giveaways and more.
The event is a way to say “thank you” to Soldiers past and present, said Lisa Rowe, of UPtown Columbus Inc.
Admission is free.
