Saturday

TOON at 8 p.m. for Monster House

Almost every town has a house that children — and often adults— avoid like the plague. In this 2006 CGI film, the fear of a scary-looking home is explored. Here, three teenagers realize that their neighbor’s abode is alive — and hungry. Voices include Mitchel Musso, Spencer Locke, Sam Lerner, Steve Buscemi, Maggie Gyllenhall and Catherine O’Hara.

Sunday

Sir David Attenborough hosts an absorbing two-hour special on the evolution of the first animals into the modern creatures we know today, including what those early creatures may have looked like as extrapolated by experts from fossil evidence.

Monday

WLTZ at 9 p.m. for The Event

President Martinez (Blair Underwood) and national intelligence director Sterling (Zeljko Ivanek) suspect they have a mole in their midst. Sean (Jason Ritter) encounters a mysterious conspiracy theorist (guest star Paula Malcomson, “Deadwood”) while looking for answers in Leila’s home. Simon’s (Ian Anthony Dale) allegiances are tested in the new episode “Loyalty.”

Tuesday

HIST at 8 p.m. for The Real Story of Halloween

From its roots as a pagan holiday honoring departed souls to modern traditions of breaking rules, pushing boundaries and wearing disguises, Allhallows Eve remains a time for people to confront and reflect on their own mortality in myriad ways. Although many Halloween parties may be festive affairs, most people still enjoy getting a good scare on this witchy holiday.

Wednesday

SYFY at 9 p.m. for Ghost Hunters

After checking out the reportedly haunted Ulster County Jail in Kingston, N.Y., the Ghost Hunters are off to Atlanta to investigate the Antebellum Plantation in Stone Mountain Park, a living museum made up of 18th- and 19th-century buildings from all over Georgia. Here’s the hitch: Workers claim spirits of those who once dwelt in these buildings came along for the ride in the new episode “The Oldest House in Georgia.”

Thursday

WTVM at 8 p.m. for It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

So many Halloween TV specials these days are like getting a rock in your trick-or-treat bag, but some 44 years after its first airing, this animated gem remains one of the best, as idealistic young Linus patiently sits in his “sincere” pumpkin patch waiting for the Santa-like Great Pumpkin to reward him with Halloween largesse. Arguably second only to “A Charlie Brown Christmas” among the many “Peanuts” specials in terms of memorable moments.

WLTZ at 8 p.m. for Scared Shrekless

If you saw “Shrek the Halls,” you know the green ogre took his time getting in the Christmas spirit. That’s not the case with Halloween, though; he loves that holiday. In this new special, he challenges his fairy-tale friends to a scary storytelling contest, but there’s a catch: They all have to spend the night in Lord Farquaad’s haunted castle. Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz and Antonio Banderas reprise their voice roles from the “Shrek” movies.
