I have to admit that I feel a bit too mature — fine, old — to dress up as a naughty nurse and play beer pong this Halloween. I'm not quite ready to give up on Halloween parties altogether, though. I love candy and Oct. 31 is the official day to celebrate sugar, right?
This article about wine and chocolate pairings inspired me to think more creatively about Halloween parties for the over-21 set. I think a candy and wine pairing party would be a fun way to celebrate, slutty kitty costumes optional.
This party would be simple. Use the leftovers from the trick-or-treat bowl and open several bottles of wine. Have your guests pick which wine/candy combinations are their favorites. Simple, huh? And you won't be mopping cheap beer off the floor for weeks after this party.
Need some help getting started? Here are some guidelines for successful pairings. Sparkling wines and dessert wines will go with most milk-chocolate candies but be adventurous and open a heavy red Zinfandel to pair with dark chocolate.
