My favorite suburban pot-dealing widow turned Mexican politician's wife is on the run again in tonight's Season 6 opener of "Weeds." It airs at 10 p.m. on Showtime.
In the surprise Season 5 finale, Shane, Nancy's middle son, attacks Pilar, Nancy's husband Esteban's political "adviser." My recollection of the final scene: Shane strikes Pilar's head with a baseball bat, Pilar falls in the pool, Nancy destroys a security camera and I'm shocked into silence as the credits roll.
In tonight's episode, Nancy, her three sons and her brother-in-law Andy flee Esteban and the Mexican mafia. They attempt to start anew in Canada where they find work at a hotel. They vow to avoid any illegal or dangerous activities, but it isn't long before Nancy spots a business opportunity.
This out-of-control, over-the-top, completely unrealistic show is one of my favorite guilty pleasures. It makes me cringe, laugh, yell, roll my eyes and shut my eyes. It's half an hour of craziness that always entertains.
After tonight's episode of 'Weeds,' Laura Linney's new show 'The Big C' airs. Linney's character goes through a personality transformation after she's diagnosed with Stage 4 melanoma, the deadliest type of skin cancer. It's supposed to be funny, but finding humor in cancer is not going to be easy.
