This week I was working on a high school graduation story revolving around what kids were going to do this summer, their "last summer of freedom," and whether there were any songs or movies that were especially important to them at this time in their lives.
I sand "Bridge Over Troubled Water" at my graduation with choir and the song still reminds me of high school. Plus there were a slew of songs and movies that my friends and I listened to and watched that we made jokes about and stuff like that.
It seems like most of that went out with the 20th century, because most of the kids couldn't think of any song or movie that meant that much to them or reminded them of this time in their lives.
The story should print sometime this weekend. And here's my list of the top 10 high school graduation movies:
9. Reality Bites
8. The Girl Next Door
7. Can’t Hardly Wait
6. High School Musical 3: Senior Year
5. 10 Things I Hate About You
4. Ghost World
3. American Pie
2. Say Anything . . .
1. The Graduate
Honestly, there are a few here I haven't seen, but I just KNOW they belong here. Any suggestions? Additions? Subtractions? Think I'm way off base? Let me know in the comments what YOUR favorite (or top ten) high school graduation movies are. If I get enough responses, I'll post the results when I'm back in the office on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, have a great long weekend and don't forget who we're remembering on Monday!
And congrats to all the Valley graduates! It's really just the beginning . . .
