It's a Christmas miracle - South Carolina legislators won't impeachGov. Mark Sanford for his dalliances in Argentina this summer. Alert Tiger Woods.
It's probably for the best. I mean, when you've only got a year left in your term, what's the point? Sanford is out of office in January 2011 and can't run again. South Carolina could lock up their government for the next year trying to remove him from office, spending time and money that could go elsewhere, and in the process make the whole state the butt of Saturday Night Live for the next 12 months.
Instead, they've done something sensible. Let the guy finish his term, in which nothing significant will happen anyway, because lawmakers won't let it. Then he'll disappear into political obscurity, or go on reality TV.
