You don't often hear about it, but there are "dream teams" of doctors and researchers who are working finding cures for various types of cancer.
The special, "Stand Up to Cancer," has Hollywood celebrities answering telephones, singers but also reports from these dream teams. It's fascinating what they are doing.
Like almost everyone on this planet, our family has been touched by cancer. My paternal grandmother died of breast cancer before I was born. My father died of multiple myeloma, a kind of blood cancer, in 1991. My brother-in-law, John, who is married to my youngest sister, Patty, has been cancer-free for years now. He had testicular cancer before he was 30. He just turned 50 last month.
An aunt in Japan died of breast cancer about 2002, I think. My cousin Kotoe was diagnosed with breast cancer in the fall of 2008. She's doing fine and her gorgeous hair is growing back.
A good friend is battling brain cancer as I write. Another friend is fighting breast cancer.
Another friend has beat ovarian cancer.
The money raised by this telethon goes straight into the research.
So give money by calling 1-888-90STAND or by going to standup2cancer.org
I do have a few questions: Who are some of these people on this event? I guess I'm not on top of some of these television shows. And what on earth did Renee Zellweger do to her face?
