Here we are in Kansas City! We're reminded this is where David Cook came from, and we see another former finalist: Jason Castro. Apparently his brother is auditioning and he's here to cheer him on.
How much do you want to bet the producers leave that for the 2nd hour?
First up, it's Chelsea Marquardt, a cute blonde who calls herself a little girl with a big voice. We get some minor background footage, suggesting she could be promising.
But things turn sour. Really sour. She sings "Without You" very, very screechily.
Simon: "It sounded like a cat jumping off the Empire State Building and the sound it would make before it jumped off." Paula tells her to take something positive from the audition.
Kara: "You're a pretty girl, but you are not a good singer, sweetie."
Things get better with 20-year-old Ashley Anderson, who fumbles the words to Leona Lewis' "Footprints in the Sand." With a song written by Simon Cowell, that's not a good move.
She recovers, though, turning out a decent audition. Four-way yes.
