It's that time of year again, where the most churlish of the conservative mindset break their chains and proclaim themselves the Fountainhead at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference.
So, what's this gathering all about? Well, we here at PP&B believe that it's a good opportunity to meet people who think just like you and mock those who dare to think otherwise. It's also a good place to test the waters if you're seriously considering a run for the presidency.
Problem is, Ron Paul - libertarian darling - won the straw poll for the second year in a row. That would be great, if the guy had any chance of winning the Republican nomination. Which he doesn't. Ever.
But as long as the Paulites are willing to stack the voting pool in their favor, then this is what you get - a fake election in which we have to look at who came in second or third place to see who really has a shot at winning the Repub nod.
That appears to be Mitt Romney, though faves such as Mike Huckabee and Sarah Palin are superstars in their own right and shouldn't be counted out just because some lame excuse for a straw poll put them near the bottom.
No, they should be counted out because Barack Obama will use discord within Repub ranks and infighting in the opposition party to secure his own re-election in 2012. Put that in your tricorne hat and smoke it.
