The Atlanta Opera Ball

If you're like me, I'll bet you can't wait for the arts season to start. Let's see, that's what? A month away?

If you like opera and have the money, the 2011 Atlanta Opera Ball, now in its 24th year, features the theme of "Indulge Your Senses." Mark your calendar!

It begins at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 17 in the St. Regis Atlanta, 88 W. Paces Ferry Road. The evening includes a cocktail hour, silent and live auctions, dinner and dancing to the American Flyers.

Part of the evening's entertainment includes a special performance by members of the Atlanta Opera Chorus, directed by chorus master Walter Huff.

Here's the good stuff: among the auction items are a 32-inch long necklace of natural colored freshwater pearls; eight days at Trillium Links & Lake Club Resort for eight guests in Cashiers, N.C.; a week's stay in St. Bart's and a weekend at Reynolds Plantation with a round of golf.

Tickets are $300 and patron tickets start at $1,500. The deadline to buy tickets is 5 p.m. Sept. 8.

Yup. Tickets are pricy. But if you want to support the opera and can do it, here's your chance to rub elbows with the hoity-toity opera lovers of Atlanta.
