Wine Wednesday: Wine tasting dinners set for Monday and Tuesday

A Wine Tasting Dinner at the Loft is set for Monday, August 22. Guests will sip wine to raise money for Chidren's Healthcare of Atlanta. Don't overdo it on Monday, though, The Market hosts a wine dinner featuring wines of Italy on Tuesday, August 23.

For the Monday wine dinner, the cost is $65 per person and the seating is limited, so reserve your spot now. Call 706-596-8141 or e-mail loftwinedinner@gmail.com for more information. Doors open at 7 p.m. and dinner is at 7:30 p.m. The Loft partners with Banfi Vintners to provide the wine and food pairings for the event. Aflac is heavily involved in the Children's Healthcare center which is home to the Aflac Cancer Center.

The Loft's Monday menu:

Fried brie with pepper jelly accompanied by Banfi Principessa Gavia

Watermelon Salad with balsamic dressing and fresh mozzarella accompanied by Trivento Amado Sur Torrontes

Grilled Maine Lobster and Wild Shrimp with gnocchi, zucchini and spring leek cream sauce accompanied by Marques De Casa Chardonnay

Herb Crusted Pork Tenderloin, au gratin potatoes, grilled asparagus and roasted shallot and port wine sauce accompanied by Terrunyo Carmenere

Grand Marnier Cheesecake accompanied by Cadoro Moscato Spumante

The Market's Tuesday wine dinner:

The Market hosts a wine dinner featuring wines of Italy at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 23. The dinner will include five courses of hand selected Italian wines. Chef Jamie Gruber will pair each wine with a specially designed dish to complement each selected wine.

Cost is $45 per person. The Market is at 1039 First Ave. in Columbus. Reserve a spot by calling 706-320-9733 before noon on Monday, August 22.

I went to the July wine dinner at The Market and it was delicious and educational! Gruber's menu showed his support of local farms, and I picked up a lot of new knowledge about local growing conditions. The educational part of the wine dinner is informative and well-planned. I enjoyed hearing about how the food was prepared and why it was selected to match the wines and I had fun learning about the regions the wine was from.
