Take a class with Columbus State University’s Continuing Education program and you can learn to dance, paint and even design clothes.
Last fall, my husband and I took a dance class, Latin Dancing with Pedro.
Yes, we stepped on each other’s toes.
Yes, we bumped heads.
Yes, we had fun. In fact, it’s possible that we laughed more than we danced.
It was nice to spend an evening together once a week that wasn’t devoted to cooking, cleaning or TV watching. Fun on a weeknight? Yes, it’s possible!
We even practiced our moves each weekend. (Pedro, we did! I promise.) It was fun homework, although we’re both glad the class wasn’t graded. We certainly would not have been A-students.

Beginning Watercolor: Make a color wheel and learn how to mix a variety of colors from the three primary colors -- red, yellow and blue. Learn how to use black paint to make Ansel Adams’ ten point value scale and learn about light and shadow. Learn simple techniques for creating texture. Materials provided. Tuesdays, Feb. 21-March 13, 6-8 p.m. Cost: $99.
Fashion Design: Learn how to take fashion concepts from paper to the runway. Tuesdays, Feb. 21-March 13, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Cost: $139.
Pilates: Form Study: Beginners will learn how to perform each exercise correctly to avoid injuries. Bring a mat. Mondays and Wednesdays, Feb. 20-29, 6 p.m.-7 p.m. Cost: $49.
Ballroom 101: Learn a few basic fundamental moves. Dances will include Waltz, Rumba, Foxtrot, Swing, Cha Cha and Shag. How to lead and follow will be covered. Couples only. Registration fee covers both participants. Thursdays, March 1-29, 7:30-8:30 p.m. Cost: $125.
Latin Dancing with Pedro: Soak up the passion, spirit and rhythm of Latin dancing in this introductory class. Dances such as Merengue, Salsa, Cumbia and Bachata will be taught. Individuals and couples are welcome. Mondays, March 5-April 2, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Cost: $125 per couple; $69 for one person.
T’ai Chi for Health and Wellness: Practice slow-moving exercises that tone and relax the body, increase vitality and stamina, improve flexibility and balance, reduce stress and pain and develop concentration. Tuesdays, Feb. 28-April 3, 6-7:15 p.m. Cost: $79.
Online Travel Tricks for Vacationing on a Budget: Organize a multi-stop itinerary, learn how to find unique activities and how to check for and accommodate travel warnings and documentation requirements. Wednesday, Feb. 29, 6:30-8 p.m. Cost: $19.
