Randy Hippeard's eight touchdown passes propel Columbus Lions over Alabama Hammers

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- Trailing by three points in the fourth quarter, Randy Hippeard threw his seventh and eighth touchdown passes of the game as the Columbus Lions prevailed 56-43 Saturday night over the Alabama Hammers.

Columbus improved to 2-1 while Alabama fell to 0-2.

The Lions gained a season-high 341 yards of total offense and allowed 278 yards. They now lead the Professional Indoor Football League in points scored per game with 59.

Gerald Gales and London Crawford made three touchdown catches each and Maurice Dupree added two more for the Lions.

Columbus' defense forced six turnovers, including Jeff Lemon's two interceptions and David Smith's interception and fumble recovery.

The Lions' next game is Saturday at home against the Hammers. It will be "Military Appreciation Night," featuring $5 tickets for military personnel (only through the Lions' office), along with free Koozies to the first 1,500 fans in attendance.
