A ribbon cutting is set for 2 p.m. Friday to officially open new Equipment Concentration Site No. 43 at Fort Benning.
The 197,297 square-foot building, which includes a maintenance facility and warehouse, was a key element in the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure process to move the site from Fort Gillem to Fort Benning.
As part of the Army Reserve's Regional Support Command, the site included moving 1,357 vehicles from Forest Park, Ga. The $43 million building was constructed by the Army Corps of Engineers on 16 acres at 10477 Old Cusseta Highway.
Equipment at the site includes supplies used by 120 military and Reserve units in seven Southeastern states. Staff maintains vehicles, communication equipment and weapons, including the M-16 rifle.
