Adopt a pet, party or shop this weekend

Several pet rescue organizations and PetSmart host a special Pet Adopt-A-Thon this weekend at the store's 1591 Bradley Park Drive location. Hours are from noon to 5 p.m. Adoption fees start at $50.

Cinco de Mayo

Uptown Columbus celebrates Cinco de Mayo from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday (May 5.) Family-friendly activities will be held along the 1000 block of Broadway. Expect traditional music, costumes and food. Admission is free but bring cash for food and beverages. Highlights include a jalapeno eating contest, set for 7 p.m. Call 706-596-0111 for details.

Shop for mom

Don't forget Mother's Day is next Sunday (May 13). Looking for something unique? Talented local and regional craft makers will sell their one-of-a-kind creations this weekend.

If you're in the mood for a short road trip, head to Gay, Georgia for The Cotton Pickin' Fair.

The Columbus Parks and Recreation department hosts its Spring Open House and Sale 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Britt David Studio at the intersection of West Britt David and Armour roads.

Handmade artwork including pottery, photography and glass pieces will be available for purchase.

Yard sale for a cause

Columbus Habitat for Humanity hosts a yard sale from 8 a.m. to noon today at 1080 Martin Luther King Blvd. Bring cash or a credit cards to purchase items like appliances, electronics, building materials, books, games, furniture and holiday decorations. For more information, call 706-653-6003.

Free football for kids

Kids 17 and younger are invited to attend Sunday's Columbus Lions game for free. Ticket prices are $13 for upper level seats and $18 for lower level seats.

The game against the Albany Panthers is at 4 p.m. at the Columbus Civic Center. It's youth sports night, so expect to see some kids play football at halftime.
