He won't admit it, but my dad should take some credit for my obsession with party-hopping.
Every Father's Day, I flash back to the years when we graced my high school's annual father-daughter dance. We weren't the best dancers, but we were certainly among the most fearless.
We navigated the crowded dance floor while stepping on toes and shattering our daily stresses. It only lasted a few hours each year, but I still look back on those nights when I need to smile.

GNR tribute at Spicoli's
Nothing says "I love you, dad" like a jam session set to "Sweet Child O' Mine." Fortunately, Columbus hot spot Spicoli's is hosting a Guns N' Roses tribute act this weekend.
The bar on Friday will feature Appetite For Destruction. Expect to hear your favorite Guns N' Roses hits. Spicoli's is at 5762 Milgen Road. A $5 cover charge for Friday's show starts at 9 p.m. Music starts at 10 p.m. Call 706-221-5252.
Goodbye Shanty Shack
Let's take a moment of silence in honor of the many weekends spent packing the Shack. The space at 4475 Warm Springs Road is no longer the Shanty Shack. Under the ownership of Sammy Hewitt, it will soon open as Sammy's Hideaway.
Earlier this week, Hewitt told me he's remodeling the 21-and-older venue. He expects Sammy's Hideaway will serve food and host live entertainment.
I'll let you know as soon as I get an exact opening date. In the meantime, the venue is accepting applications for all positions. Apply in person Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1:30-3:30 p.m.
DJ Roonie G at Mix Ultra Lounge
Once again, DJ Roonie G of Mix Ultra Lounge (1107 Broadway, Columbus) is a nominee for DJ Times' America's Best DJ 2012. Other contenders include Bassnectar, Skrillex, Grandmaster Flash and more.
So yes, this is a pretty big deal. Click on this story at ledger-enquirer.com/todo for information about online voting, which is open to the public.
If you haven't seen Roonie in action, you're in luck this weekend. He's returned from Las Vegas and will perform at Mix on Friday night. The show starts at 9 p.m. and cover is $5 for women and $10 for men. Call 706-221-2112.
