Mondays are always tough, but the day after the Super Bowl is likely rougher than your average manic Monday. Is it rough enough to warrant a day off work? Many people think so. That’s why this time of year always generates discussions about whether the Monday after the Super Bowl should be a national holiday.
What do you think?
There's certainly support for the movement, including an online petition to the White House urging Obama to declare the Monday following the Super Bowl a national holiday.
An excerpt from the petition: "By doing so, the Obama Administration can promote camaraderie among the American people, keep the streets safer for our children on Sunday night and Monday morning, promote a productive workplace when work resumes on Tuesday, and honor the most popular event in modern American culture."
When I wrote this post, the petition had received just over 13,800 signatures.
A blog post from Esquire magazine recently supported the idea, noting, "About three-percent of workers don't show up the day after the Super Bowl anyway, and about three times as many come in late."
Tell me if you support the idea.
