What do you do when you can't fall asleep?

Counting sheep? You're apparently not alone.

At least 8.6 million Americans take prescription sleeping pills, according to federal health study results cited in a report from NBC News.

It explains, "The report provides the latest evidence that a good night’s sleep is becoming more elusive. In 2008, market research from Thomson Reuters found that sleeping pill prescriptions had tripled among people younger than 45."

The news coincides with some other interesting recent research regarding sleep.

The Huffington Post points to a small new study indicating sleep deprivation affects the appearance of your face.

In addition, this Wall Street Journal piece explains the art of napping. It notes, "Experts say the ideal time to nap is generally between the hours of 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Napping later in the day could interfere with nighttime sleep."

Sigh. I love the thrill of a good nap. At the same time, a sleepless night is one of the most annoying things EVER.
