Lions sign former PIFL MVP Antwon Young

The Columbus Lions announced the signing of quarterback Antwon Young on Tuesday.

Young won the PIFL's Most Valuable Player award in 2012 as a member of the Richmond Raiders.

Young, 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, is a native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

He played parts of four seasons at Villanova. He finished with 20 touchdowns passes and nine rushing touchdowns.

During his MVP season with Richmond, Young accounted for 73 touchdowns, passing for 55 and running for 18.

He led Richmond to the PIFL championship game where they lost to the Albany Panthers.

"Antwon is a game changer," Lions coach Jason Gibson said. "When we played against him, it was almost impossible to plan against him. He is smart with the football, which is something we need here in Columbus since turnovers have been a major problem the past two years. He makes great decisions on the field. If the pass isn't there, he can take off running, which will provide another threat to our offense. He is respected around the PIFL for his level of play."

The Lions start the 2014 season on April 5 against Richmond.
